Throughout the long weekend, the NYPD said that they had taken 31 firearms off the streets and arrested 35 people, many of them were members of gangs.

According to the NYPD, 35 people were arrested—many of them being gang members—and 31 firearms were taken off the streets. The gunman, who is still at large, is said to have leaped over a police cordon and opened fire on the throng.

A 25-Year-Old Man Died In The Incident

A 25-year-old guy lost his life in the shooting, and four other victims—whose ages range from 16 to 69—are still in the hospital getting better.

The incident did not characterize the entire celebration, Tarik Sheppard, Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, stressed despite the tragedy, saying, "One shooting did not mar this entire parade."

The Lowest Number of Murders In The Last 31 Years

Only 15 individuals were killed in August, which is the lowest number of murders in 31 years according to Chief of Crime Control Strategies Michael Lipetri. He noted that this was "15 too many, every life counts"

While they continue to collect ballistics evidence and video footage, the NYPD is actively asking the public for assistance in identifying the shooter. We strongly advise you to get in touch with the NYPD if you know anything.
