Two Massachusetts Congressmen, Jake Auchincloss and Jim McGovern, have introduced a bipartisan bill designed to offer transit benefits to workers. The bill proposes providing tax credits to businesses that subsidize public transportation for their employees. This initiative is seen as a critical step in reducing street congestion and promoting more sustainable commuting options.

"Transportation is not about trying to move cars," said Congressman Auchincloss. "It’s about trying to connect people to jobs, services, and most of all, each other. When seen through this lens, different priorities become clear: investing in reliable, affordable, and useful transit service."

The bill aims to partially restore a tax credit that was eliminated by a 2018 tax law, making it easier for employers to support employees' use of public transit and reducing the overall cost burden for commuters.

Making others pay doesn’t solve the cost of living crisis. It exacerbates it.
