ROCK HALL — From hosting pirates in mid-August to featuring rowdy Amish rockers to close out the month, Rock Hall is always a good place for a party.

Saturday night, The Amish Outlaws, an infamous cover band performing since 2002, played at Watermen’s Crab House to approximately 500 people, according to security officials Beverly Somerville and Jerrie Hamilton.

The Amish Outlaws shucked their Old Order ways to perform a variety of music genres that got the crowd, not just throwing their hands up in the air, but also raising the roof of the barn in the process.

The group proved their versatility, playing classic rock, to modern pop, to country and even rap. The common factor; the crowd was dancing the entire night to the suspender-clad musicians.

They played three sets from 7-11 p.m., mixing it up with cover songs like “Everybody,” originally sung by The Backstreet Boys, a Johnny Cash medley, Fleetwood Mac’s, “The Chain,” and “Jump Around,” originally by hiphop artists House of Pain.

They even played a few romantic songs like Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” and got couples swaying and slow dancing to “Kiss from a Rose,” by Seal.

They closed out the night with an incredible version of Ozzy Osborne’s “War Pigs,” mashed up with a rap by artist, Ludacris.

After they performed, they were humble enough to allow themselves to be mobbed by their fans and take selfies with them as well as Watermen’s staff. Talking with some band members, they were down-to-earth, (pun intended) and it was very easy to see they appreciated every fan.

The drummer, Jakob the Pipelayer, pointed out that Rock Hall was their second stop that weekend. Friday they were sold out at Burley Oak Brewing Company, in Berlin, Maryland and on Sunday they were headed to Delaware to the Lighthouse Bar in Dewey Beach.

“And then maybe we’ll get a little rest,” Jakob said with a grin and nod.

They play all over, to clients from Volvo, The Washington Redskins, NASDAQ, Nike Inc, just to name a few.

And they’re not just a gimmick. According to their bio, four of the original members came right out of Old Order Amish, where they shunned electricity and modern conveniences.

As their site states: “Thus, with a bold lust for life and a fire for music and performance that can only come from 16 years of repression, The Amish Outlaws were unleashed upon the world.”

Will these rebellious Amish return to Rock Hall?

They will if Tiffany Lauman, general manager has anything to say about it. She first saw them perform at Atlantic City, then again at the Chesapeake Inn, and was thrilled having them perform in their backyard.

“We had such a great time,” she said. “There were lots of rumors in town about them performing and we’re just so glad we could do this. The crowd wasn’t so overwhelming...it was great, and we look forward to booking them in the future.”

    That’s good news for fans.

Like Regina Gustke, from Richmond, Virginia.

    “They were awesome,” she added.

From the expressions of the crowd leaving, they’d agree with her.
