CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The first of six Save A Lot grocery stores that closed two years ago for renovation and rebranding reopened Thursday on Chicago’s West Side.

The store at 420 S. Pulaski Road in the West Garfield Park neighborhood is celebrating reopening with several days of giveaways.

Parent company Yellow Banana received $13 million in tax incentives and promised $26 million in renovations.

The brand has not always been warmly received.

One replaced a Whole Foods in Englewood, and there were complaints about quality. The company promised changes.

Other stores in West Pullman, South Shore, South Chicago, Auburn Gresham and West Lawn are expected to reopen in the near future.
