The 14-year-old suspect in the deadly mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder has been formally charged. The GBI says Colt Gray faces four counts of felony murder in connection to the September 4 shooting. He was taken to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center following his arrest.

The GBI says additional charges are expected to be filed against the high school student. Gray’s first appearance in court will be Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.

    Still an ‘active investigation’

The autopsies of the four victims were scheduled to be performed on September 5 at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur.

“The investigation into the shooting at Apalachee High School is still active and ongoing,” says GBI Public Affairs Director Nelly Miles. She cautions that this is “day 2 of a very complex investigation, and the integrity of the case is paramount. We ask for the public’s patience as we work to ensure a successful prosecution and justice for the victims.”

Gray is accused of killing Apalachee math teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimie and fellow students, freshmen Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn.
