A Mercy Flight ambulance was involved in a crash in Batavia while transporting a patient Thursday afternoon.

In a post on Facebook , Mercy Flight said the crash occurred just before 3 p.m. on Route 98.

"We urge that everyone respect the privacy of all those involved, and to allow Mercy Flight the time and space necessary to focus on managing the incident and caring for those in need at this time," Mercy Flight said in the post.

Later Thursday night the Genesee County Sheriff's Office released further information.

According to the sheriff's office, the ambulance was traveling north on Route 98 when a vehicle traveling east on Batavia-Elba Town Line Road failed to yield the right of way, entered the intersection and struck the ambulance causing it to roll over onto its roof.

The sheriff's office said two people in the vehicle were transported to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mercy Flight said two EMS crewmembers and the patient they were transporting were taken to United Memorial Medical Center for treatment of what are believed to be minor injuries.
