The USC Trojans football team is finally doing what should have been done a long time ago. And, college football fans around the country are rejoicing because of it.

You don’t have to be a lifelong SC fan, or a fan of the school at all, to know or love what former running back Reggie Bush did during his time in Southern California. He’s maybe the greatest college football running back ever, and if not that, he’s certainly the most electric. However, there are certainly people in this world who have some strong feelings toward him and his past at USC, and those feelings aren’t all positive.

I think we all know what happened, but, just as a short refresher, Reggie Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005, but in 2010, he was involved in an NCAA investigation which found that he and his family had received improper benefits, including cash and a house, from sports marketers. This led to USC being sanctioned, including the vacating of their 2004 National Championship and Bush's Heisman Trophy being forfeited by the Heisman Trust.

Now, he has his trophy back, which means he can finally start getting some of that respect back that he so rightfully deserves. And, the school is getting a head start on that.

On Thursday, the school announced via Twitter that Bush and former Heisman quarterback Caleb Williams would be getting their numbers retired on the peristyle at the Coliseum. Williams, of course, was the No. 1 overall pick in this last draft, and is already getting his number retired. As for Bush, well, this should have been done a long time ago. The No. 5 should never be work again by a USC Trojan. Now, Williams and Bush join the following players at USC to have their number retired:

    • 3: Carson Palmer
    • 11: Matt Leinart
    • 12: Charles White
    • 20: Mike Garrett
    • 32: O.J. Simpson
    • 33: Marcus Allen

USC has the most Heisman winners of all time, and Bush is one of the best ones to ever do it.

In his 2004 season, he rushed for 1,849 yards on 297 carries (6.2 yards per carry), and finished with 17 touchdowns. In 2005 he rushed for 1,740 yards on 268 carries (6.5 yards per carry), with 15 touchdowns.

Reggie Bush was not only a Heisman Trophy winner in 2005 but also set numerous records at USC , including the single-season all-purpose yards record in 2004. His dynamic playmaking ability on offense and special teams made him one of the most electrifying players in college football during his era.

Now, his number is immortalized. And of course, it comes after an electric win over the LSU Tigers where he was in attendance.
