Live from Detroit, Michigan, former Saturday Night Live and film star Will Ferrell is this week's guest picker for ESPN's College Game Day. The idea of the "Elf," "Anchorman" and "Stranger Than Fiction" star sitting between the ultra-serious Nick Saban and the boisterous Pat McAfee might have someone leaving the set kicking and screaming, or at least collapsing in laughter.

Ferrell's a USC grad with a B.A. in sports information in 1990. He played three sports in high school, a kicker for the football team at University High School in Irvine, California. At SC he pledged Delta Tau Delta.

Led by Heisman Trophy candidate Quinn Ewers, the Longhorns are a 7.5-point favorite on the road. The defending national champion Wolverines are led by walk-on quarterback Davis Warren, who survived acute myeloid leukemia after he was diagnosed at 17.

No doubt the GameDay crew will tell his story, and the interplay between Ferrell, Saban and McAfee should be fascinating. But what the show really needs is more cowbell.
