Miami-Dade County, FL - Social media threats targeting Lamar Louise Curry Middle School and Coconut Creek High School have prompted increased security measures across South Florida schools.

NBC 6 Miami reports the threat against Lamar Louise Curry Middle School included a concerning image and text suggesting potential violence.

Parents and students expressed concern and fear following the incident.

A mother expressed her decision to keep her child home from school due to the threat, telling NBC 6 Miami "As a parent, we have to weigh the risks of sending our children to school when there's a threat against the potential consequences of missing school. I prioritize my child's safety above all else, and I'd rather deal with a school absence than lose them."

School officials at both schools have assured the community that authorities are investigating the threats and taking appropriate security measures.

Legal consequences will be pursued against those making threats against schools, regardless of the severity.

The threats come in the wake of a recent mass shooting at a school in Winder, Georgia that left two students and two teachers dead.

Miami-Dade Public Schools have yet to provide more details regarding the social media threats.
