LSU head coach Brian Kelly revealed the injury status of two key offensive players during his Thursday press conference ahead of the Tigers’ Week 2 home opener against Nicholls .

According to Kelly, wide receiver Chris Hilton has been ruled out of Saturday’s matchup against the Colones and offensive lineman Garrett Dellinger is questionable to take their field this weekend for the LSU offense.

This will be Hilton’s second straight week out of the lineup after also missing LSU’s season opener against USC in Las Vegas. Still recovering from a bone bruise suffered prior to the season. Dellinger’s injury was not disclosed by Kelly, but the senior played in every snap of LSU’s Week 1 matchup at left guard.

Hilton’s emergence into a larger role in LSU’s passing attack continues to be delayed this season after he recorded 13 receptions for 225 yards and two touchdowns last season in his 11 game appearances (two starts). Regarded as one of LSU’s best all-around athletes and one of the fastest players in college football that will eventually complement wideouts like Kyren Lacy in the passing game this season.

“Chris Hilton and everything that he’s dealt with in his past from an injury standpoint and the really complete receiver that he’s become. I think you guys saw in the spring, right?” Offensive coordinator Joe Sloan said during fall camp . “A bunch of stuff that he’s able to do, can’t be more excited about him and what he brings to the table. He’s special man, he’s elite.”

Dellinger is a crucial piece of LSU’s offensive line that is one of the best in the nation across college football. Regarded as one of the Tigers’ most versatile offensive lineman after making starts at left guard, left tackle, and center during his career in The Bayou. Allowing just one QB pressure in Week 1 versus USC’s defensive front in a matchup where the Tigers offensive line allowed zero sacks and paved the way for 308 yards of total offense.

If Dellinger is not available this Saturday, players like Bo Bordelon , Paul Mubenga , or Tyree Adams could potentially start in his place. As the Tigers will look to get on the winning side of things this Saturday versus Nichols in a matchup kicking off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
