Cruise ships have long been killing the Keys, and now manmade runoff, activity and climate change have devastated them. Entire areas that 35 years ago were oases of tropical life worthy of any nature channel are just deserts of pale, dead rock. It’s a shame to lose the number one reason we’re a tourist destination, but it’s deadly in the longterm to the ecosystem to lose such life on so grand a scale. Still, we’ll watch the boiling sea helplessly from the shore and wonder aloud how the gods could be so cruel.
