    Stat Roundup: Where Vols rank in the conference, nationally ahead of Week 2 matchup

    No.14 Tennessee (1-0) is set for a top-25 clash in the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte against No.24 N.C. State (1-0) on Saturday night. Ahead of the contest, Volquest takes a look at where the Vols rank as a team and individually in stats against the conference and nation.

    *The individual stats listed will be based on conference rank. If a player ranks inside the top ten in the conference, those stats will be listed, along with where they fall nationally.

    Vols QB Nico Iamaleava

    Iamaleava was stellar in his 2024 debut. He completed 22 of 28 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns in just one half of work. He earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors and set the record for most passing yards in half for a Vol.

    Total Passing Yards (314) – 3rd in SEC, 30th nationally

    Completion Percentage (78.6%) – 2nd in SEC, 6th nationally

    Average per completion (11.2) – 5th in SEC, 21st nationally

    Passing Touchdowns (3) – Tied 3rd in SEC, Tied 18th nationally

    Vols RB Dylan Sampson

    Sampson was again excellent on opening day. He led Tennessee with 12 carries for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

    Total rushing Yards (124) – 1st in SEC, Tied 2nd nationally

    Average yards per attempt(10.3) – 1st in SEC, 14th nationally

    Total rushing touchdowns (3) – 1st in SEC, Tied 2nd nationally

    DeSean Bishop and Khalifa Keith both are tied for 6th in the SEC for rushing touchdowns (1) and 48th nationally.

    Vols WR Dont’e Thornton

    Things started to click for Thornton on the outside last fall before he suffered a season-ending injury. He kicked off the 2024 campaign strong on Saturday against the Mocs.

    Total Receiving Yards (105) – 3rd in SEC, Tied 38th nationally

    Average Yards Per Reception(35.0) – Tied 3rd in SEC, tied 9th nationally

    Total Receiving Touchdowns (2) – Tied 2nd in SEC, tied 6th nationally

    *To qualify, a player must have at least 1.875 receptions per team’s games played*

    Vols WR Bru McCoy

    McCoy showed on Saturday that he has fully recovered from the season-ending injury that sidelined him last fall. He caught six passes for 89 yards on Saturday.

    Total Receptions (6) – Tied 5th in SEC, Tied 52nd nationally

    Total Receiving Yards (89) – 3rd in SEC, Tied 38th nationally

    Vols TE Ethan Davis

    Davis flashed his red zone ability early as he hauled in a nice touchdown pass from Nico Iamaleava in the first half last weekend. He caught two passes for 20 yards and a score.

    Total Touchdowns (1) – 8th in SEC, Tied 36th nationally.

    Vols DL Tyre West

    West had a strong day in Tennessee’s consistent rotation along the defensive line. He had a sack and forced a fumble.

    Vols Kicker Max Gilbert

    Field Goal Made (2)- Tied 4th in SEC, Tied 15th nationally
