Officials in the school district that includes Searsport and Stockton Springs say there is no credible danger after it was the subject of potentially threatening statements in a post that circulated on Facebook.

Regional School Unit 20 administrators worked with law enforcement to investigate the potential threat and determine that all students and staff are safe, according to a letter shared Friday morning by Superintendent Chris Downing .

Downing did not provide details about the social media post.

“We appreciate the support and vigilance of our community in keeping our schools safe and encourage you to continue to report any concerns to the appropriate authorities,” Downing said. “Rest assured, the schools are safe and operating normally.”

RSU 20 includes Searsport District Middle High School and Searsport Elementary School.

The social media post came in the wake of a shooting earlier this week at a Georgia high school, in which a 14-year-old boy allegedly killed four people.
