A Minneapolis arborist is in critical condition after an accident at work on Wednesday.

Christopher Swanson, of Minneapolis, was severely injured on a job site in Ramsey County when a large log fell on top of him at around 2 p.m.  Swanson suffered a broken leg, broken ribs, and a fractured spine.

He is currently at Regions Hospital undergoing two surgeries, with a GoFundMe set up to help his recovery saying he does not have insurance, and there is a possibility he may never walk again.

Swanson, who has been an arborist for 20 years, is a father-of-three and a resident of the Seward neighborhood.

The GoFundMe was created by his 16-year-old son, who wrote: "If you are able to donate anything at all, my family and I would really appreciate it."

So, in addition to not having medical insurance, the dumbass didn't have workers' compensation insurance either. Chances are he wasn't licensed. Legally, he needs to be licensed and insured to be an arborist in MN. If he cuts corners on licensing and insurance , it's fair to assume he cut corners everywhere he could. It's no wonder he almost killed himself.

Murphy’s law strikes again. I myself had two bad accidents in my life. Both times I was uninsured. Both times cost me $50k, and that’s without any surgeries. One injury is coming back to haunt me 25 years later. Always have health insurance. It’s a necessary evil despite the high costs. One accident without health insurance can wipe you out and put you on the street. I was lucky to have some meager savings and get a payment plan, but would have rather used that money for just about anything else besides my hospital bills in which not much was done.
