According to certain Trader Joe's superfans, their cute, chic, and ultra-viral mini canvas tote bags are about to make a big comeback.
For years, Trader Joe's has sold cheap yet durable branded canvas tote bags for eco-conscious shoppers who wanted to rep their favorite grocery store . This February, however, TJ's dropped a miniature, 13-inch version of their classic canvas bags with colorful handles in navy blue, forest green, red, and yellow. They were cute - and fans went wild .
The product instantly went viral, and within a few weeks, buyers managed to entirely wipe out TJ's entire mini tote stock. Even then, the madness didn't stop. According to Forbes , these mini totes, which only cost $2.99 in stores, sell for as much as $500 each on aftermarket sites like eBay!
The (Rumored) Return of the Mini Canvas Tote
Since Trader Joe's stopped restocking their mini canvas tote bags, fans have been clamoring for more - and it looks like they're about to get their wish. On September 5, Instagram food blogger and TJ's fan @traderjoesobsessed posted a photo of an in-store display rack fully stocked with the famous multi-colored mini totes, claiming that "the mini canvas [tote] bag will be arriving on Wed. September 18 ."
While Trader Joe's official Instagram has not publicly confirmed a massive mini tote re-stock date yet, this rumored relaunch would be consistent with what TJ's Marketing VP Matt Sloan announced earlier this year. On the March 13 episode of the Inside Trader Joe's podcast, Sloan addressed the viral craze and claimed that the mini totes would make a return in stores "probably by, like, late August, early September."
"It was kind of a one-off in that we thought they'd be limited, and we don't want to totally limit this," Sloan said. "So, we're hoping, and we're working to have them come back [in] the same colors by the end of summer."
If the date of the rumored relaunch is true, we're looking at quite the feeding frenzy here. For perspective, Trader Joe's had another very similar tote bag craze this year with their insulated mini cooler bags , and fans haven't stopped raving over them since. Suffice to say, shoppers will want to move quickly once the canvas totes are back on store shelves, because they won't stick around for long!
