TROY (WWJ) — A Troy man is in trouble with the law after a traffic stop for speeding and drunk driving led to the discovery of thousands of dollars in cash and a large stash of pot in his car.

The 34-year-old man’s name has not been released as authorities continue to investigate and mull over possible charges.

It all stems from an early-morning traffic stop, just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 in the area of Rochester and Maple Roads in Troy.

Officers spotted a new Ford F-150 speeding in excess of 100 mph and blowing through a stop light. When they pulled him over and went to talk to him they noticed he had bloodshot and watery eyes and the truck smelled like alcohol.

After officers discovered the driver had a suspended license, he failed multiple field sobriety tests and blew a .15% BAC on a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up.

While officers were searching the man, they found more than $6,400 in cash in his pants pockets.

During an inventory search of the pickup truck, authorities found two large duffle bags containing nearly 4 lbs. of marijuana and an additional $12,000 in cash.

After refusing another breath test at the facility, authorities drew his blood for a chemical test and are awaiting the results. The case has been turned over to the Troy Police Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants.
