Last week, the Sherman Minton Renewal Project announced that restoration on the historic bridge was on pace to be

    complete by mid-November .

We’ll pause while you sigh in relief .

Here’s a look at the bridge, by the numbers:

    • 1962: The year the Sherman Minton Bridge opened — it was the first bridge built on an interstate highway in Louisville
    • ~70,000: The number of commuters who use the bridge daily
    • 800 ft: The span of each of the bridge’s two iconic arches
    • 30: The number of years the renewal project is expected to add to the bridge’s lifespan
    • 136: The number of bridge cables that are being replaced in the final phase of construction
For Derby City’s commuters , it’s been a long time coming so let’s take a look back. When the Sherman Minton Renewal Project began in September 2021 :

    • Louisvillian Jack Harlow had yet to release a No. 1 single. He’s had two since then — “First Class” and “Lovin’ on Me.”
    • Chris Mack was still the Louisville men’s basketball coach. The Cards have had three bosses since then: Mike Pegues, Kenny Payne, and Pat Kelsey .
    • LOUtoday was just a month old . Seems like a long time ago, doesn’t it? Don’t worry, we couldn’t imagine life without you either.
