A hit-and-run suspect who's been on the run since December is now facing enhanced charges after the victim died on Sunday.

A nationwide manhunt has been ongoing for 20-year-old Eivi Almontes since a crash on December 13 in Bloomington, Minnesota. Police say Almontes crashed his grey Infinity into another car at high speed at the intersection of East 94th Street and South 12th Avenue.

Kelvin Conteh, 49, of Bloomington, was left in critical condition, with a hospital spokeswoman saying at the time of the collision he was "not expected to live." Conteh died from his injuries on Sept. 1.

Almontes fled the scene, sparking a nationwide warrant issued for his arrest. His charges have now been enhanced to criminal vehicular homicide, according to Bloomington Police Chief Booker T. Hodges.

"Mr. Almontes, I suggest you turn yourself in," Hodges said at a press conference, announcing the enhanced charges. "The arm of the law is very long, and I think it does extend to a country south of the United States," he said, insinuating that Almontes may have fled the country.

Bloomington police are urging anyone with information on Almonte's whereabouts to inform investigators.
