    They were really up against it in the Pacific. The European Theater treated P.O.W.s on both sides with civility. The Japanese tortured and killed P.O.W.s which are war crimes. They got theirs in the end though with fire bombing of Tokyo (the most devastating event in human history - even more so than the atomic bombs) and both atomic bombs. The Pacific War was hell on earth. I am grateful to all those who served there.

    the Pacific theater had far more racial hatred than than the European theater. The European combatants shared a common Anglo history with those on opposing sides. In the Pacific there was no common history and both sides saw the other as not equal and actually less than human. The Pacific was far more brutal
