DETROIT (WWJ) — One person was injured Friday afternoon when a pressure explosion inside a sewer caused a manhole cover to be launched into the air.

The explosion happened around 2 p.m. in the area of Bates and Congress, near Cadillac Square. The area was closed off while authorities investigated.

A person who was walking on the sidewalk was taken to the hospital but was expected to be okay, according to multiple reports.

The person was not hit by the manhole cover, but was knocked down by the force of the explosion, according to WDIV .

The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear, but The Detroit Free Press reported DTE Energy officials said the manhole did not belong to them. DTE officials, however, went to the scene to work with first responders to run tests and determine the cause, according to the Free Press.

DTE officials said service remains uninterrupted for customers in the area, according to the report.
