FAIRFIELD, Iowa — The community of Fairfield is planning a welcome home event for archer Matt Stutzman, after he won a gold medal in the Paralympics held in Paris.

“So tomorrow at one o’clock, we are going to have a parade from Fesler Ford west of town, into town and will end on the Square,” said Dawn Bechtel, event organizer. “When we get to the Square we will have a small ceremony with the mayor and the community will get to talk to Matt and see the gold and meet his family.”

The community also welcomed Matt after he won a silver medal in the 2012 Paralympics.

“To see like our Flaming Marshmallows, which is our Special Olympics group, I would love to see that all of them, every one of them, up there when he arrives tomorrow at one,” said Mendy McAdams, the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. “That’s their aspiration that’s their hero and they can say ‘I can do it,’ it’s that I can mentality and the ‘I can’ attitude that those folks really thrive on.”

People are encouraged to wave U.S. Flags and signs, but political signs are discouraged.
