Before the nickname "Buffalo Joe" was coined, Joe Andreessen was already a legend; a Lancaster Legend.

The Buffalo Bills linebacker started his football career right in our backyard and on Friday, he returned to Lancaster High School to kick off the football season.

7 News spoke with some members of the Lancaster community, who were so excited to welcome him back onto the field.

"I think it's pretty cool that he came from here just like us and now he's playing on the Bills," said Camdyn, a student.

"It's amazing for the kids. It's amazing for the community," said Scott Myers, president of the board and former coach. "It hits right here at home. It shows them that someone can do it."

"This doesn't get any better. We've had local boys, but they went to different teams," said Jeff Schuler, a family friend. "A local boy following his team got to go out and do what he wanted to do. Doesn't get any better than that."

“Hard to put into words. Just the best feeling, playing high school football. There's nothing like it, especially at Lancaster," said Joe Andreessen. "A lot of hard work. It starts here and just have fun with it. Keep your mind to it and enjoy the process."
