DAYTON — The walking trail at the Swinging Bridge Park will be temporarily closed during the week for construction beginning Sept. 16, 2024, to accommodate the installation of a new sewer line. City officials said the closure is necessary to ensure the safety of park visitors and allow for the completion of this essential infrastructure project.

The upcoming construction will involve replacing a 54-year-old line and removing the necessity of the 100-year-old pump station located at the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 30.

“This is part of our efforts to finalize the construction of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant,” city officials said.

The construction project, which is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its sewer system, will require the closure of the park on Monday through Thursday for an estimated six months. On Monday through Thursday during this time, access to the park will be restricted, and park trails, including the Storybook Trail, will be temporarily inaccessible to the public. The trails will be open for the public to enjoy on the weekends, Friday through Sunday.

“The City of Dayton recognizes the inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as we work to improve the city’s infrastructure,” city officials said. “The temporary closure is essential to expedite the completion of the sewer line construction, and we are committed to reopening the park on all days of the week to the public as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Local residents and park visitors are encouraged to stay updated on the construction progress and any changes to the closure schedule through official city communications channels, including the city’s website and Facebook page.

“The City of Dayton apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and thanks the community for their cooperation and understanding as we work to enhance the city’s infrastructure,” city officials said.

For more information or inquiries about the park closure, contact the Dayton Parks and Recreation Department at (423) 775-1817.
