Malik Willis Under Fire After Jordan Love Injury

Malik Willis was acquired via trade by the Green Bay Packers from the Tennessee Titans less than two weeks ago.

He was thrust into action in the final few seconds of the Packers' Friday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

His number was called after Jordan Love suffered what appeared to be a lower leg injury with just six seconds remaining. With the Packers down by five, Willis technically had a chance for some late-game heroics, but things didn't go as planned.

His first pass attempt fell incomplete, leaving just two seconds on the clock. With a chance to heave the ball into the end zone, Willis ended up slipping and getting sacked to end the game. A play that social media is roasting him for despite the poor field conditions was a topic of discussion throughout the game.

"Malik Willis coming into the game and taking a sack is unfortunately the most Malik Willis outcome possible," joked one fan.

"The Malik Willis game," chimed in another.

"You're on the sideline the ENTIRE game, should see everyone slipping and sliding and you or your team don't adjust your cleats to compensate for it? Ridiculous," wrote another.

"Yeah, not ideal circumstances to come into a game, but Malik Willis is so bad, it legitimately feels miraculous if this guy completes a pass. Better sign a free agent QB to start, Packers," commented another user.

While social media is always quick to call someone out, it does feel fair to note that Willis came into the game cold. With more time to prepare and better field conditions, it is possible that he can perform better if given another chance.

The former Liberty Flames star had appeared in 11 games in his two years with the Titans, starting three games in 2022. Love's status moving forward is still unclear, but Willis may be called upon moving forward.

The Packers play their second game of the season on Sunday, September 15, against the Indianapolis Colts at 1:00 ET.
