Frost Advisory in Effect for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin

    2024-09-07

Early Morning Frost and Fog Expected to Clear by Mid-Morning

DULUTH — Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:27 AM on September 7, 2024.

Frost Advisory: Protect Your Plants This Morning

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth has issued a Frost Advisory for parts of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, including the cities of International Falls, Hill City, Two Harbors, Duluth, Bigfork, Grand Rapids, Grand Marais, and Silver Bay. The advisory remains in effect until 8 AM CDT this morning as temperatures are expected to dip as low as 34°F, leading to potential frost formation that could damage sensitive vegetation.

Morning Frost and Fog to Erode with Sunlight

Residents are advised to take precautions to protect tender plants from frost damage. The frost is expected to clear as morning sunlight increases, but early risers in the affected regions may notice patches of fog alongside the frost. The NWS suggests covering sensitive plants or bringing them indoors if possible to prevent damage from the cold.

Low Probability of Hazardous Weather Ahead

Looking ahead from Sunday through Friday, the NWS does not anticipate any widespread hazardous weather conditions for the region. The probability of severe weather remains low, providing a respite after this morning's chilly start. Skywarn spotter activation will not be necessary today or tonight, indicating a quiet weather pattern on the horizon.

Precautionary Measures for Gardeners and Farmers

Gardeners, farmers, and anyone with outdoor plants in the affected counties, including areas on the Mille Lacs Band, Big Sandy Lake area, Grand Portage Reservation, Fond du Lac Band, and Bois Forte Band lands, should take immediate action to shield their plants. Sensitive plants exposed to frost may suffer damage or be killed if not properly protected.
