The downtown fun kicks off on Friday with the Generation to Generation art exhibit at the historic Ramsdell Theatre from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring the works of Martha Hudson and her grandson Tim Albee. </p><p> All weekend there will be Water Bug Boat Tours available daily on the Riverwalk, an exhibit at the museum, a farmers market, a chili cook-off and an antique car show. </p><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"> 40 YEARS AGO </h2><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"> Channel 21 on the air </h2><p> Television viewers waiting patiently for Central Michigan University to work all the bugs out of the system can tune in this weekend. Channel 21 is expected to be on the air. </p><p> The first week of programming will involve a fundraiser to solicit pledges to pay for the equipment and tower for this area. </p><p> Channel 21 will carry standard PBS programming which includes: “Masterpiece Theatre,” “National Geographic” specials, “American Playhouse,” “Washington Week in Review” and “Nova.” </p><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"> Now playing </h2><p> Now playing at the Vogue Theatre is Prince in the music sensation motion picture, “Purple Rain.” Showtimes are Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Showing at the Chippewa Drive-In is “Gremlins” and “National Lampoon’s Vacation.” “Gremlins” starts at 8:10 p.m. followed by “Vacation” at 10:30 p.m. </p><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"> 80 YEARS AGO </h2><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"> War pictures available </h2><p> At a defense council meeting held recently at the board of commerce, information on films which can be obtained for group programs with no expense connected was presented to the members. </p><p> It was announced that any organization which has group meeting is entitled to procure the films, projector and the service of a trained operator from the local state police headquarters if advance notice of two weeks is given the headquarters. </p><h2 class="cci_subhead" title="CCI Subhead"> Softball team party </h2><p> Members of the girls softball team of Morton Salt Company enjoyed a party last evening which was spent dancing and later a lunch was served. </p><p> Party participants were: Phyllis Paprocki, Audrey MacGregor, Evelyn Czarnecki, Dorothy Minster, Virignia Yoder, Genevieve Tyron, Irene Guzikowski and Gail Swanson. </p><p class="cci_endnote_contact" title="CCI End Note Contact"> Compiled by Mark Fedder at the Manistee County Historical Museum </p></div></body>
