Everyone is invited to join the fun for the 5th annual Statewide Star Party!

From Sept. 12—14, sites across Minnesota will be hosting Star Parties and giving opportunities to observe the sky. This year, we’ll also be celebrating the moon for International Observe the Moon Night. You can join two Star Parties in our area. The Grand Rapids Area Library is hosting a Star Party on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 3:30 p.m. The City of Cohasset is hosting a nighttime star and moon gazing party on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 8:00 p.m. in the Blackwater Environmental Area (the boat landing at 26000 Blackwater Road).

Both events are free and in partnership with the Bell Museum. At the library they will be doing indoor moon activities for all ages. At Cohasset the Bell Museum will bring its telescope as well as binoculars and monoculars for better viewing for participants. No registration is needed to attend either event.

The Bell Museum has been hosting star parties open to the public all across Minnesota. A star party is an exciting gathering of astronomy enthusiasts and curious individuals who come together to appreciate the wonders of the universe. It’s a chance to explore celestial objects, participate in interactive theme-based activities, and share new experiences with fellow stargazers of all levels. During the Statewide Star Party, the Bell Museum will partner with both GRAL and Cohasset to orchestrate a symphony of star parties taking place during the same weekend.

For more information, visit www.bellmuseum.umn.edu/2024-statewide-star-party/. You can also call the Children’s Desk at the Grand Rapids Area Library at (218) 327-8823 or email Cohasset at parks@cohasset-mn.com. While the Library event is indoors and not weather dependent, check the Cohasset Parks & Rec Facebook page for updates regarding weather cancellations for the evening viewing.
