Kirk Herbstreit Names 'Best Tandem' In College Football

Kirk Herbstreit shared his thoughts on the "best tandem" in college football when the ESPN "College GameDay" crew was in Ann Arbor, previewing the Michigan Wolverines versus Texas Longhorns matchup.

While everything may be bigger in Texas, Herbstreit shared high praise for the trenches in Michigan. He believes defensive tackle Mason Graham and nose tackle Kenneth Grant make up the "best tandem" in college football.

During the 2023-24 college football season, Graham served as an anchor to Michigan's defense during the 2023 national title run with three sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and 35 tackles.

His partner on the line, Kenneth Grant has also been a force in the trenches for Michigan. Grant capped off the 2023-24 college football season with 3.5 sacks and 29 total tackles.

Herbstreit thinks Graham and Grant round out the "best tandem" in the nation.

"The interior in this game," Herbstreit said. "I think it's the best tandem in the country with what they can do with Graham and Grant."

The Michigan Wolverines fished the 2023-24 season as the No. 1 team in the Big Ten. They faced a few incredibly talented offenses last year and put a cork in the bottle for the most part.

Michigan held the Washington Huskies to 13 points in the national title game, Alabama to 20 points in the Rose Bowl game, and Penn State to 15 points at Beaver Stadium.

While the Wolverines didn't retain all of their firepower from their championship-winning season, Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant are still in the mix.

Their talent on the line leads Kirk Herbstreit to believe they're the "best tandem" in college football.
