This offseason, a major coaching change took place at the top of college football. Nick Saban retired, leaving the Alabama Crimson Tide head coaching position wide open. Former Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer became Saban's replacement.

Saban won six national titles at Alabama, and fans hope for sustained success with DeBoer. On "SEC Nation," former Alabama defensive back Roman Harper liked what he saw from the Crimson Tide in Week 1. Alabama beat the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 63-0.

Paul Finebaum quickly brought Harper back down to earth along with the rest of the Alabama fanbase. Finebaum joked that Harper was similar to every caller on "The Paul Finebaum Show" in that the former Alabama player expected greatness from DeBoer after one game.

"Laura, what you heard from Roman wasn't a trained analyst talking," Finebaum said. "He's every Finebaum caller because after one game, 'We love Nick Saban, but get out of the way, old man! We got Kalen DeBoer, and we're gonna win another national championship.'"

While DeBoer is not yet on the same level as Saban regarding national titles, the former Washington coach is successful. DeBoer posted a 25-3 record in his two seasons at Washington. Last season, he took the program to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2016.

Alabama will face the USF Bulls in Week 2. Alabama struggled against USF last season but escaped with a 17-3 win.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN from Bryant-Denny Stadium.

All of these comments are “socially motivated.” Nothing remotely resembling factual. Truth is..... there can be no ACCURATE ASSESSMENT of DeBoer, until he “faces the FIRE!

Pauls word means nothing: he always has negative things to say about coaches that don’t agree with his philosophy.
