Packers Urged to Sign QB Away From Chiefs After Jordan Love Injury

On Friday, September 6, the Green Bay Packers suffered a 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL's first-ever game in Brazil. But the Packers may have lost more than just the game, as quarterback Jordan Love suffered an apparent leg injury on the final drive.

Despite initial reports saying Love's ACL is still intact, the injury appeared serious enough for fans to start pointing out replacements for the former Utah State star.

CBS Sports writer Jordan Dajani believes Green Bay has a few good options in the quarterback market, including free agent Ryan Tannehill and Cleveland Browns veteran backup Jameis Winston.

Newly acquired Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Bailey Zappe was the third option Dajani gave as Love's replacement.

Zappe signed with the Chiefs practice squad in late August after two seasons with the New England Patriots. He was a part of the Patriots' final roster cuts during training camp.

After a promising start in his 2022 rookie season, where Zappe took over the starting role for a few games with Mac Jones out, the former Western Kentucky star was not able to match his strong play the following season.

In 2023 with New England, Zappe played in 10 games and completed 59.9% of his passes for 1,272 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Despite the down year, many NFL fans shared the same opinion as Dajani, urging the Packers to sign Zappe on social media.

"Get Bailey Zappe from the Chiefs practice squad asap," one fan said .

"Had a dream Bailey Zappe led the Packers to the Super Bowl," added another .

"It's an MCL tear," a third wrote . "Likely 8 weeks. Need to go get Bailey Zappe off the Chiefs practice squad."

The Packers' offense would take a huge blow if Love misses extended time, but Zappe could be an ideal fit to bridge the gap.
