Tom Brady previews Fox role, NFL season during halftime of Texas-Michigan showdown

Before Tom Brady was a seven-time Super Bowl champion, he was a Michigan Wolverine.

As one of Michigan's most iconic football alums, Brady is never too far from the program where he first made his name. With Brady settling into a new role as a Fox NFL analyst, it was a no-brainer for him to make an appearance during Fox's broadcast of Michigan's early-season showdown with No. 3 Texas.

In addition to narrating a hype video in the lead-up to kickoff, Brady took part in the game's halftime programming. Here's everything to know about Brady's role and what he had to say during halftime of the broadcast.

Brady joined from the booth in Cleveland's Huntington Bank Field, where he will be on the call for Sunday's game between the Cowboys and Browns.

While his Wolverines faced a 24-3 halftime deficit to Texas, Brady spun things forward by taking to Fox's Joel Klatt about his excitement and nerves ahead of his broadcast debut.

"Obviously, super excited," Brady said of his debut. "There's a little anxiousness, obviously, there's been a lot of preparation going into it from a lot of people. It's been a couple-year journey  — the thing that's most exciting to me is getting back to NFL football, being up here in the booth.

"I've got the best partner with Kevin (Burkhardt) and Erin (Andrews) on the field with Tom Rinaldi … I get to be a part of a great team."

Brady spoke glowingly of both Dallas and Cleveland as he looked forward to the QB matchup between Dak Prescott and Deshaun Watson. The seven-time champ closed his appearance by sharing some of his philosophies and how the approach he'll take to broadcasts during his rookie season as an analyst.

If anyone knows about gameday in Ann Arbor, Mich., it's Brady. In under two minutes, Brady encapsulated the heritage of both Michigan and Texas' programs, outlining the high stakes of the Week 2 matchup.

Brady received a 10-year, $375 million deal from Fox to become an analyst for NFL games, according to a 2022 report from Andrew Marchand. The reported figure averages out to $37.5 million annually, making Brady one of the media's highest-paid members.

To build the hype for Brady's debut in the booth, Fox released a television spot to show that the future Hall of Famer is back to work.

With an 18-week season, three rounds of the playoffs and Super Bowl 59, Brady could call up to 22 games during the 2024 NFL season. If he does, he would earn around $1.7 million per game.

If Brady does not call a game during each week of the season, the figure could approach $2.0 million per game, though Brady will almost certainly be on the call for at least 20 games this season.
