There are a lot of perks that come with being a professional basketball player in the NBA. While you get to play basketball as a job, you also get paid quite a bit of money, and if you are really good, you can make hundreds of millions of dollars.

Muggsy Bogues didn't make that much money, but he made around $18 million in career earnings during his time in the league. And when he got his first NBA paycheck, he didn't hesitate when it came to making his first two purchases.

Bogues' first two purchases after making it

Bogues was the 12th overall pick of the 1987 NBA Draft, and it's safe to say that the league was a bit different when the diminutive guard was playing in it. Players weren't instantly making millions of dollars when they entered the league.

Still, Bogues made a good chunk of change right off the bat, and he was pretty happy when he got his first paycheck. That's because when he started getting paid, he immediately went and built a house for his mother, and then he bought himself a Mercedes Benz car.

"The first thing I did, I built my mom a house," Bogues said on Knuckleheads with Quentin Richardson & Darius Miles. "And then after I built my mom her house, I went, of course, and got me one of them 560 Mercedes two-seaters."

Muggsy took care of himself and those close to him

A lot of the time, NBA players buy fancy things when they get their first paycheck. And in a sense, that's precisely what Bogues ended up doing. The difference was that one of his big purchases wasn't even for him.

Buying a house for your parents is a common trend among these professional athletes. However, doing it right off the bat is a bit risky, as you aren't necessarily guaranteed to stick around in the league. Bogues didn't care; he knew he wanted to give back to his mother, so he did it immediately.

Of course, he splurged on himself too and bought a nice new car too. Bogues got a brand new two-seater Mercedes Benz that he would show off to his teammates, and it's safe to say that it cost him a pretty penny, too.

Bogues would go on to earn a lot more money over the remainder of his career, and he certainly made more purchases. But these two big ones he made first were pretty notable, and it's safe to say that they were both impactful in their own unique ways.
