The No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions hosted Bowling Green on Saturday, coming into the matchup as heavy favorites.

Despite being favorites of over 30 or more points on various betting sites, the Nittany Lions escaped with a 34-27 victory over the Falcons. Penn State trailed for much of the game, but a strong second half helped push the Nittany Lions to 2-0 on the season.

Head coach James Franklin and his squad may have started the season with two straight victories, but fans are still calling for his removal after the game.

The Nittany Lions came into the season with College Football Playoff hopes and have now played two suspect games. They defeated West Virginia 34-12 in an ugly Week 1 game and barely beat the Falcons in Week 2.

College football fans believe they've seen enough from Franklin.

"So, we are still firing James Franklin, right?" said one fan.

"Is James Franklin coaching his last season in Penn State?" said another fan. "In my opinion he should be…."

"One of the poorest defensive halves of the James Franklin era," commented one fan. "A loss equals firing let's just cut to the chase. Can't beat Bowling Green, ain't no way to you getting to the playoffs."

"Dont let the Texas vs Michigan game distract you from the fact James Franklin still stinks." mentioned one fan.

"James Franklin is the worst coach in the country," said one fan.

"Fire. James. Franklin. That is all." said another fan.

Franklin and the Nittany Lions struggled in a couple of significant categories on Saturday.

Penn State had just two third-down conversions, and seven penalties resulted in 76 yards in favor of Bowling Green.

The Nittany Lions were also beaten in the air, with Bowling Green quarterback Connor Bazelak recording 254 yards on 25 completions and PSU's Drew Allar posting 204 yards on just 13 completions.

Penn State didn't just struggle in moving the ball through the air. It had ongoing troubles on the defensive end, letting Bowling Green convert seven of its 14 third-down attempts and giving up 20 first downs to the Falcons.

James Franklin has been with the Nittany Lions since 2014. He's put Penn State in a great position to be a successful program, with the Lions securing double-digit wins in the last two seasons.

Despite that level of success, Franklin hasn't been able to get the Nittany Lions over the edge. They consistently lose to the top dogs in the Big Ten, Michigan and Ohio State. Franklin is 4-16 against the Wolverines and Buckeyes since he arrived at Penn State.
