The Colts are catching a huge break before they play one of their biggest games of the year

The Indianapolis Colts" early season schedule on paper included multiple tough matchups.

They begin the year at home against the Houston Texans, who had a busy offseason adding talent. Their first road game in Week 2 is against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, one of the toughest places to play in the NFL.

But recent news confirms that the Packers will be without starting quarterback Jordan Love due to an injury suffered in their season opener in Brazil.

Jordan Love set to miss the Colts vs. Packers Week 2 matchup

The Packers ended last season on quite the tear to punch their ticket to the NFC playoffs. They finished the regular season on a three-game winning streak. They went on the road in the Wild Card round and upset the Dallas Cowboys 48-32 before falling just short against the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round to end their season.

A big reason for their late-season success was Jordan Love playing the best football of his young NFL career. Love's emergence had many expecting the Packers to have a big 2024 year, and this Week 2 matchup for the Colts looked to be one of their toughest games all season long due to Love's talent at the quarterback position and their abundance of young, exciting options in their wide receiver room.

Sadly, the Packers saw Love go down with an injury in the final seconds of their Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The early reaction led many to believe he suffered a season-ending knee injury. He thankfully avoided that devasting fate but still will be sidelined for the next few weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 or 2 MCL sprain. He is expected to miss the next three to six weeks, so he will still for sure miss the team's home opener next week against the Colts.

Love and the Packers' high-powered offense looked to be one of the toughest tests for the Colt's young and questionable secondary. The outlook and overall expectations for this game have now been drastically changed. The Colts, facing backup Malik Willis, would be a massive downgrade from playing Love, who has shown himself to be one of the up-and-coming QBs in the league. The Colts' defense typically thrives against QBs like Willis, who are known to struggle as a passer. So, after being a Week 1 road underdog, I now expect the Colts to be favored on the road for Week 2.
