Sometimes it feels as though Week 1 should be called Rust Week. Based on some of the mistakes made during the Friday game, various guys looked a little rusty. However, as the game progressed players got into rhythm and the Eagles were still able to soar over the Packers down in Brazil. In spite of the errors there were also some jaw dropping plays made by both teams. In particular, the running backs put on a show. Certainly the Eagles were glad they acquired Saquon Barkley from the Giants this off season. Likewise the Packers had to be thrilled with acquiring Josh Jacobs from the Raiders this year. Both running backs had impressive performances.

As for the quarterbacks, both Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love had some questionable or downright dangerous throws during the game. But they also had some amazing passes as well. It was an up and down performance for both teams as they shook off the "rust" of the off season. Jalen Hurts had a terrible interception during the Eagles opening drive. On 3rd & 15 from their end zone he heaved a pass intended for DeVonta Smith but was picked off by Xavier McKinney. The Packers took over at the Eagles’ 19 yard line but came away with a 31-yard field goal. On the Eagles second possession there was a mix-up with the center and Jalen Hurts fumbled the ball. It was recovered by the Packers who came away with a 23-yard field goal.

The Eagles finally got on track at the start of the 2nd quarter thanks to some short passes and two great plays from Saquon Barkley. He had a tough 11 yard run to pick up a first down and two plays later he caught an 18-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone. Giving the Eagles their first lead of the game.

Josh Jacobs ran hard all night long, averaging 5.2 yards per carry along with 2 receptions for 20 yards. He did have one fumble but it may have been due to the wet conditions of the field. Several players were slipping and sliding on the field. And there were a lot of dropped passes as well. In the second half of the game both quarterbacks threw head-scratching interceptions. It appeared that they both were trying to force the throws into double coverage.

Jason Kelce’s absence at center was notable for the Eagles. More time will be needed for Jalen Hurts and Cam Jurgens to get on the same page. The offensive line will need to give Hurts more protection. He was harassed by Green Bay’s very effective pass rush most of the game. On the other hand the Philadelphia defense played well enough, coming through when they needed to step up at crucial moments. They managed to disrupt Jordan Love on occasion forcing him to throw the ball away.

However in the last seconds of the game Jordan Love was injured. Which is unfortunate because he did throw some pinpoint passes last night. Backup QB Malik Willis came into the game for Love. On the final two plays he threw an incompletion and was sacked on the last snap of the game. Willis is the only other QB on the Packers’ roster at this time.

Love suffered an MCL sprain NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Saturday, per sources. Pelissero added that the recovery timeline for Love, whose ACL is intact, is in the range of three to six weeks, but there’s optimism he could return sooner than later, pending a second opinion. We hope that’s the case because he’s a young and talented player and Green Bay needs him.
