Former Chelsea star slams Jadon Sancho over Premier League swap

Chelsea's decision to make a transfer deadline day move for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has been met with a mixed reaction.

The final hours of the Premier League deadline saw the Blues offload four players on loan, as Raheem Sterling headed to rivals Arsenal , and Armando Broja joined Everton for the 2024/25 season.

However, alongside loan outgoings, Chelsea also completed a deal for Sancho, with the England international now in place at Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the campaign.

Sancho will be looking to rebuild his career in the capital, with the deal including an obligation for Chelsea to buy him next summer for up to £25m ($32m), as United look to cut ties.

Some Blues fans have hailed the deal, with Sancho dubbed as their 'own Ronaldinho' , but the size of Chelsea's squad and the overall lack of planning has caused concern for others.

Former Chelsea midfielder and World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit is firmly in the latter camp and he went in two-footed over the decision to bring Sancho to the club.

"When I saw they'd signed Jadon Sancho on deadline day, I wondered is there any shirt numbers left for him", as per an interview with BetVictor .

"Imagine him opening the door to the dressing room and seeing so many players they don't fit in the same dressing room! At the training ground they must have two dressing rooms, three pitches and 12 physios.

"How can Sancho bring himself to sign for Chelsea after what happened at United? He was loaned to Borussia Dortmund, then back to United, and now he’s off to Chelsea who have 40+ players and he is just one of them.

"Hasn't he had enough of moving clubs, losing his way on the pitch and losing confidence? Now he's at a club that has no consistency, lacks confidence and results. If he's not there for the money, what is he there for?"

Petit's comments will come into sharp focus as Sancho prepares for his potential club debut after the international break with Chelsea heading to Bournemouth on September 14.
