What To Do Immediately After An EMP, Grid Down, Long-Term Power Outage, Or Natural Event

Hello my friends! Today's article is about preparing for a long-term power outage, grid down, natural disaster, big storm, or an EMP event. There are important steps to take after an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP event. This is for your safety as well as those around you. These pulse signals can disrupt, damage, or destroy technology and critical infrastructure systems across large areas and in an instant. They can be from the sun or they can be man-made.

Nuclear EMPs have the potential to cover entire countries and fry small circuits inside electronics on a massive scale, provided the detonation is large and high enough. It could tear through phones, the internet, and the electrical grid.

EMP Or Storm Event: What to Expect Afterwards

Well, first you can probably anticipate turmoil in the event of an EMP occurrence. The affected area will make an effort to function as though a natural disaster had struck. Weeks or months without electricity, empty grocery stores, people unable to move elsewhere due to a lack of fuel or ATMs, looting, rioting, damaged roads, etc. People could become desperate as they start to get hungry. Depending on the season, the weather can play a huge role in how things go as well.

Actions to Take Right Away Following an EMP Event

We will assume that, given you are reading this, you are among the few who take preparation seriously. To increase your chances of surviving, we're concentrating on what you should do IMMEDIATELY AFTER an EMP event.

Go home as soon as possible before traffic jams and mayhem break out, assuming your transportation is still functional. Gather your family members at home just as soon as you can.

EMPs fry electrical equipment, which can start fires. Make sure your home is safe. Additionally, look around for downed electrical lines, burnt transformers, and other hazards in your neighborhood and adjacent areas.

Don't drink the tap water. Water won't be purified if water treatment facilities aren't running. You'll have to rely on your supplies or boil your own. Add water to bathtubs and other containers. At some point, the water will stop flowing and become unfit for human consumption. While you can, fill up your buckets, portable jugs, and tubs with water.

If you have a hand crank radio, keep an ear to the news.

Examine your cars, then stash the functional ones. Anything that is functional will become highly sought-after and could make you a target.

Stay put until you receive further information. You should remain indoors until the cause of the EMP incident is determined. If a man-made event caused the EMP, you might need to avoid certain areas.

Take out your emergency supplies and see what you're working with. Make a list of everything you currently own and what you need. Keep everything as hidden as possible.

Prioritize consuming perishables before consuming your long-term emergency supplies. Make a ration chart and make sure everyone in the household knows how important it is to follow the plan.

Potassium iodide anti-radiation tablets are available for purchase online; get some to put in your kit.

If you're staying put, you'll need a landfill and a latrine. To survive, one must practice sanitation. This is one of those things that most people don't even think about but could mean the difference between being sick and miserable and surviving and thriving.

Construct defenses within your house. People often behave strangely after a disaster. Boarding up windows and doors will help keep your family and house safe.

Determine if it makes more sense to bug in or bug out using the information at your disposal. Cities will become tricky to live in and navigate. If you have friends and family in rural places, head there if it's possible.
