CHICAGO - Chicago is in the midst of yet another violent weekend, with at least 22 people shot and three fatalities reported across the city, according to police. One incident involved a fatal shooting early Sunday in the Loop, where a 38-year-old man was found shot to death around 12:54 a.m. in the 11500 block of South LaSalle Street. Witnesses reported seeing a red two-door vehicle leave the scene. No arrests have been made.

In another early morning incident, a SWAT situation unfolded on the South Side, where two people were shot. A man was shot in the 10500 block of Cottage Grove Avenue around 2:13 a.m. He was able to transport himself to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition, police said. A second person suffered a graze wound and was also treated at the hospital. Authorities confirmed that the SWAT situation concluded without further escalation by 9 a.m. with one person taken into custody.

On Saturday evening, gunfire erupted in the Avalon Park neighborhood. A woman driving with two children and a 21-year-old man was shot at around 5:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of East 87th Street. Both adults sustained gunshot wounds to the head and were rushed to the hospital, where the woman was later pronounced dead. The man remains in critical condition, while the children were unharmed.

Later that night, in the South Shore neighborhood, a woman defended her home from an attempted burglary. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. in the 2300 block of East 69th Street. The woman, a licensed concealed carry holder, shot the suspect in the leg after seeing him attempting to enter her home. The suspect survived and Chicago police are investigating the case as an attempted burglary.
