On Sunday , the Minnesota Vikings had about as good of a start to their season as one could have hoped. Sam Darnold threw the ball all over the Meadowlands, vs the New York Giants. He looked exactly like head coach Kevin O’Connell has been promising. Brian Flores’ defense, meanwhile, has looked impenetrable.

Minnesota Vikings WR Jordan Addison ruled out with ankle injury

But not everything this afternoon has been peaches and cream, in the Big Apple. Most notably, wide receiver Jordan Addison, walked off the field with a towel over his head , after injuring his ankle. It is not the same ankle as the one he previously injured, according to Kevin O’Connell .

Prior to the injury, Addison had been one of Darnold’s favorite targets on the day… though the Vikings’ new QB has been spreading it around to everyone, pretty successfully. Nonetheless, Jordan’s day ends with 3 catches and 35 yards, on 4 targets.

He was quickly ruled out for the rest of the contest, which is worrisome, when projecting his status in week two and beyond. This hurts even more, because TJ Hockenson is out until, likely until week 7, per the most recent reports .

Without the former USC and Iowa pass catching stars on the field, opposing defenses will be able to focus their coverage schemes around Justin Jefferson, without much consequence. Third year WR Jalen Nailor has been an early success story, in 2024, but he’s not Jordan Addison.
