After a stretch of hot weather, Northern California is set to see a gradual cool-down this week, with the possibility of showers arriving by mid-week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento.

Sunday and Monday will bring slightly cooler temperatures, with skies clearing across the region as a weak low-pressure system moves east along the Oregon-California border. In Sacramento and areas to the north, temperatures are expected to be 5-10 degrees cooler than the previous day, with the warmest parts of the Central Valley still nearing 100 degrees.

By Wednesday, a trough moving into the region could bring showers to the northern mountains and Sierra, though there is still some uncertainty about its exact impact. The NWS reports that around 60% of weather models are leaning toward a stronger system, which could brush across Northern California on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
