Jessica H. isn’t just your average BJ’s Wholesale Club shopper. As a self-proclaimed “BJ’s superfan,” she’s spent years uncovering the best ways to save at this wholesale club. With over 215 locations across 16 states, BJ’s offers deep discounts on a wide range of products, from groceries to electronics, so you can maximize your budget . But Jessica knows there’s more to saving at BJ’s than just buying in bulk.

Money mistakes the super wealthy never make - that you might be doing now.

Master the Art of Coupon Stacking

Unlike some other wholesale clubs, BJ’s allows customers to combine coupons for maximum savings. “The largest source of savings is finding a clearance item and combining it with a manufacturer and/or BJ’s coupon,” Jessica said. “It’s a real rush when you get the combo right!”

She recommended creating an online account with BJ’s to access digital coupons and keeping an eye out for coupons mailed to members.

    Decode the Price Tag System

Jessica has cracked the code on BJ’s pricing system. “This is easy enough to find out online, but I’ve used it to great success,” she said. “When you see a price with a cents number that is different, such as .00, or any cents listing not at .99 or .49, this is an indicator that the listed product is at a reduced price and available for a big discount to free up shelf space.”

This insider knowledge can help you spot the best deals quickly.

    Always Check the Clearance Section

Jessica shared that there’s even better deals available at BJ’s in the clearance section. “The clearance section is a great place to look for things,” she said. “Especially bigger ticket items. If you want to save big on, like, a couch — check out clearance.”

Pro tip: Use the filters on the website to narrow down the best deals in specific categories.

    Don’t Skip the Produce Section

You don’t have to go big or go home at BJ’s. In fact, many items, including produce, aren’t in bulk. “You can buy smaller amounts of lots of things in produce — and it’s usually cheaper than other grocery stores,” Jessica explained.

This makes it easier for smaller households to take advantage of fresh produce deals without letting a bunch of fresh food go to waste.

    Be Strategic With Perishables

While the deals can be tempting, Jessica warns against going overboard on perishable items in bulk. “To get the most value out of BJ’s, you need to buy items in bulk. When purchasing perishable food items, you need to make sure you have enough people in your household to consume the food before it goes bad,” she cautioned.

Fill Up Your Tank and Your Wallet

For Jessica, a trip to BJ’s isn’t complete without a stop at the gas station. “BJ’s gas is usually very competitive with local gas stations,” she said.

Jessica pointed out that you can further increase that discount by getting a BJ’s credit card, which gets you 5% back in rewards at BJ’s and a $0.15 discount per gallon on gas.

Hold Off on New Product Lines

Patience can pay off when it comes to new products at BJ’s. “By waiting a few weeks, you have a better chance of getting a better price when prices are marked down to make room for newer items,” Jessica said. “When you shop regularly at BJ’s, you’ll start to recognize which products are new and might be most likely to fall in the potential clearance category.”

    Don’t Overlook Travel Deals

One of Jessica’s favorite lesser-known perks of a BJ’s membership is the travel savings. “I think it’s especially good for package deals — like cruises and all-inclusives,” she said. Before planning a trip, Jessica always visits the BJ’s travel page to compare prices with other travel sites and make sure she’s getting the best deal.
