WNBA Refs Facing Pushback for Controversial Call Against Caitlin Clark

    By Chris Phelps,

    2024-09-08

On Sunday afternoon, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever played in their second-straight home game as they hosted the WNBA playoffs-hopeful Atlanta Dream. Already, seven teams have clinched a spot in the postseason, and the Dream are one of the remaining teams still in the hunt.

With 2:11 remaining in the second quarter, Clark was bringing the ball up the court with forward NaLyssa Smith trailing her. As the former Iowa Hawkeyes star made her way past halfcourt, she tossed the ball to Smith.

Smith had to jump forward and catch the ball so the referees would not call a backcourt violation.

Even though it appeared Smith had crossed the halfcourt line in time to gain possession of the ball, the refs still called a backcourt violation. This gave Clark another turnover on the day.

WNBA fans were not happy with the call on Clark, disagreeing with the refs and roasting them online.

"Yo WNBA how tf is this a Caitlin Clark turnover????" one fan said.

"Exactly. These refs have an agenda and/or just plain incompetent"

"Some bad refs! If you don’t play ball you shouldn’t be reffing"

"This was called as a backcourt turnover for Fever. Refs doing some weird s***," another added .

"These refs are so..." said one more.

"Refs on one again! Unreal!" a sixth posted .

Clark has led the Fever to one of the best records in the WNBA since the return from the Olympic break, going 7-2, including a five-game winning streak. During that timeframe, Clark has won two Player of the Week awards and the Player of the Month award for August.

When Caitlin Clark passes the ball it’s not to where her teammate actually is, it’s where that teammate will be two seconds later. This is why she is such a proficient passer and high number of assists. Bad call by the refs.

Oh no can't call fouls against toxic golden cunt Clark. Better not sneeze near her, or you'll face backlash.
