Atlanta has a long list of fallen heroes that were taken from us far too soon. From Bankroll Fresh to Trouble. From Lil Keed to Slim Dunkin, Atlanta has lost more talent than most cities are blessed to have. This week we added another name to the list. Rich Homie Quan. Quan came out of the gate going 3/3 with his initial mixtapes “I Go In On Every Song” “Still Goin In” and finally “I Promise I Will Never Stop Going and i'll be honest with you. He didn't lie once. Quans word play and ability to find different melodies took him from unknown to the biggest rapper in Atlanta in less than 2 years of being a full time artist. I grew up at a high school where Quans eventual manager and longtime best friend Rich Homie Monta coached baseball. Quan and Monta came up with a plan and turned the kids that they knew they needed to connect with, into their own personal street team by passing out “Rich Homies” shirts and physical mixtapes at a time where everyone got their music straight from download sites or youtube.

He was able to grow his popularity purely from word of mouth and create a fane base of teenagers that he knew would champion his sound. By the time he got his first major hit record “Type Of Way” his music was inescapable in Atlanta. However Quan is from Atlanta, a city where black people pull other black people up with them, so of course at his height he decided to link up with another fast rising star that also had a unique melodic style. Young Thug. Under Birdman Rich Gang label, Quan and Young Thug gave Atlanta one of the most historic mixtapes of all time “Rich Gang The Tour Pt 1” with multiple street hit records and changed both of their lives forever. Quan went on a run that included songs like “ Walk Through” “My Hitta” “Flex” just to name a few to establish that he wasn't a flash in the pan but was a full fledged star and Young Thug went on to be respected as one of the most creative minds in song making period but make no mistake. At the time Rich Gang was formed Rich Homie was the hottest in the city and the chemistry they created hasn’t been replicated by anyone out of Atlanta since.

As the days pass more and more stories have come out about Quans kindness and thoughtfulness for people he didn’t know and things that give you (even if you've never met) an idea of the kind of man he was. A thoughtful man, a man of honor, a father. Rich Homie Quan is a son of the City Of Atlanta and graduate of Mcnair High School and he will live on forever through his music and the millions of memories people have created. Quan was always open with fans about his struggles and recently gave interviews and spoke to his state of mind being clear and with his music finally back in his control announced plans to drop new music. While his next project will be a posthumous release I personally believe the city of Atlanta loves its sons. Because my hope is whatever he is currently working on can be completed by his friends and family and released so that the entirety of Atlanta can support him one last time. You may be asking why I believe this, but the answer is simple. THATS. RIGHT. TOO
