NFL official shockingly admits he got a call wrong in Steelers vs. Falcons

The Pittsburgh Steelers ' Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons was littered with bad calls that mostly went against the Steelers, who still managed to come away with the 18-10 victory over the Falcons on the strength of a great defensive effort.

Perhaps the most egregiously bad flag was an offsides call on star edge rusher T.J. Watt, who timed a snap perfectly and ended up notching a strip sack of Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins late in the second quarter.

Making the penalty even worse was the fact that the Falcons went from a facing a turnover to scoring a touchdown a few plays later. By the way, that was the only touchdown the Falcons had all game.

After the Steelers won, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo asked Watt about the strip sack that was taken away from him before the end of the first half and the star edge rusher revealed the official admitted he got it wrong.

"Yeah, especially when the official says he messed it up," Watt said. "After the first half, he went in and saw it, so, glad to get the get-back."

That wasn't the only strip sack Watt had taken from him. An illegal hands penalty on cornerback Donte Jackson negated another. That penalty was actually warranted, though.

Aside from the bad offsides call, wide receiver George Pickens was called for one of the weakest offensive pass interference penalties you've ever seen, and right tackle Broderick Jones was flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct that was a joke.

Thankfully, the Steelers were able to overcome the horrible officiating, although they may not be so lucky next time.
