NFL Fans Burn Jersey of $160 Million Quarterback Amid Blowout Loss

Sunday's Week 1 NFL slate featured a handful of blowouts, including the New York Giants falling at home to the Minnesota Vikings, 28-6.

Despite running 68 plays to Minnesota's 51, the Giants mustered only 240 total yards of offense, or an average of 3.5 yards per play. Big Blue did not find the end zone and settled for a pair of Graham Gano field goals.

Starting quarterback Daniel Jones finished the day with 186 passing yards and two interceptions (one for a touchdown) on 22-of-42 passing. He was sacked five times.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll told reporters after the game that he never considered benching his $160 million signal-caller , but fans had different ideas.

A video posted to X by Sarah McCrory, a producer at Meadowlark Media who was in attendance at MetLife Stadium, captured some Giants fans burning a pair of Jones jerseys in a parking lot outside the stadium.

Well, at least trying to burn them.

Fans online weren't much nicer to Jones following the season-opening dud.

"Surprised anyone still has one," one fan wrote .

"Even Jones’ jersey can’t get hot. #sad ," another said .

"Maybe saddest burning jersey video ever done," added another.

Even before a torn ACL ended his 2023 season after six games, the 27-year-old Jones wasn't much better a year ago. He finished last season with 909 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, a 36.3 quarterback rating and a 1-5 record.

Jones still has three years remaining on the four-year, $160 million deal he signed in March 2023, but New York does have a potential out after the 2024 season if they choose to take it.

The move would cost the franchise $22.2 million in dead salary cap money in 2025, according to Spotrac.
