Lions' Jameson Williams torches Rams CB for long touchdown in Week 1

The Detroit Lions need 2022 first-round pick and wide receiver Jameson Williams to step up in 2024 after the departure of Josh Reynolds, and with the team lacking reliable depth at the position. So far the Alabama product is answering the bell.

Williams got his night going with a 13-yard carry and a 36-yard reception on a pass from quarterback Jared Goff. But he really made some noise when he absolutely torched Rams cornerback Tre'Davious White for a long touchdown.

The play came in the third quarter with the Lions up 10-3. Williams blew past White down the sideline and Goff threw him a perfect deep ball to complete the long touchdown play that went for 52 yards.

The 52-yard grab was the second-longest of his career, and the score was just his fourth since he entered the league in 2022. Williams has also set a personal best in receiving yards in a single game, which was previously 69.

The signs were all there that Williams was poised for a breakout season. After all, he had a strong offseason and showed signs of progress, and this was the first season of his career in which he had a full offseason and a normal start to the regular season.

There's still a long way to go, but Williams couldn't have gotten off to a better start than he did on Sunday night.
