Dan Campbell Admits Why Lions 'Almost' Didn't Want To Hit Matthew Stafford

The Detroit Lions know how much trouble Matthew Stafford brings to his opponents. The former first overall pick of the team's resiliency was once again on full display when the Lions faced off against Stafford's Los Angeles Rams.

Early in the game, Stafford had to get checked after twisting his ankle. The Rams quarterback then proceeded to play out of his mind for the rest of the game on that bum ankle. He completed 34 out of his 49 pass attempts for 317 yards, including one touchdown and one interception.

The Lions still ended up winning the game. However, head coach Dan Campbell admitted that Stafford's resiliency made an impact on the team.

"It's almost like you don't wanna hit him because when you hit him, he plays better," Campbell said, according to Colton Pouncy .

Lions fans are quite familiar with Stafford's resiliency. His iconic game in 2009, where he threw a game-winning touchdown despite a dislocated shoulder, remains fresh in everyone's minds.

His toughness was once again evident during his rematch with his former team. The Rams were having troubles with their rag-tag offensive line due to injuries and suspensions. Stafford was hit in the pocket all game long.

Yet, with only a few minutes left in the game, Stafford led the Rams on a long drive that gave them the lead. Unfortunately, the defense was not able to hold on, surrendering a field goal to the Lions to tie the game. They would lose the game in overtime after conceding a touchdown on the first drive.

The Rams are hoping that Stafford's injury does not end up hurting their season. They already have one of their stars in Puka Nacua potentially being injured.
