It's the end of an era in Lafayette, California. A popular "mom and pop" shop is throwing in the towel after 48 years in business.

Since 1976, Scott and Wendy of Clocks Etc have sold and repaired clocks in downtown Lafayette at their large storefront on Fiesta Square.

In that time, hundreds of Lafayette businesses have come and gone. Yet somehow, improbably, their little clock shop/clock repair business has remained, well, in business.

We guess that people who like clocks really like clocks and have supported them through all these years!

Now, the store has announced its imminent closure.

But don't cry to hard that this store's time (get it?) has come. Wendy and Scott aren't closing because of high rent or other factors. They're not even retiring.

According to a note on their front window, they simply want to pursue a slower-paced life after decades serving the community.

Well, we say it's time (sorry) for them to take that well-earned breather. Although the clock may be ticking on Clocks Etc. (really, I promise I'll stop), you can still call their original phone number (925) 284-4720 for clock repair services. Wendy is pursuing her long-time career as a professional harpist.

We're sorry to see this little Lafayette gem go, but we wish the owners all the best in their non-retirement!
