Manhunt: As the search for the Kentucky interstate shooting suspect Joseph A. Couch continues, authorities say they found a vehicle belonging to Couch, as well as a gun that may have been involved. The manhunt for Couch is stretching into its third day Monday. “We’re not going to quit until we do lay hands on him,” Laurel County Sheriff John Root said. The latest >
Kentucky interstate shooting: Saturday night, a gunman fired 20 to 30 rounds at drivers on Interstate 75 near London, Kentucky. Bullets struck 12 vehicles and left five people hurt. Couch was identified as a suspect after authorities found his SUV on a service road near the crime scene. Authorities searched a rugged, hilly area of southeastern Kentucky for Couch on Sunday. ‘Random act’: A spokesperson for the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said the interstate shooting appeared to be a “random act” of violence and wouldn’t speak on a potential motive. Couch is considered armed and dangerous , and authorities have advised the public not to approach him. Report: A long-awaited report from Republican lawmakers on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released in the shadow of the three-year anniversary of the chaotic and deadly U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, criticizes President Joe Biden for rushed efforts to exit America’s longest war regardless of counsel from allies and advisers. The report also accuses the Biden administration of failing to see warning signs of how quickly Kabul would fall to the Taliban during the 17-day evacuation. An estimated 100,000 partners of U.S. government efforts were left behind, and a suicide bombing killed 13 U.S. service members as well as 170 Afghans. Full report >
‘Cherry-picked facts’: In response to the report, the White House accused House Foreign Affairs Chair Michael McCaul, R-Texas, of cherry-picking details of the withdrawal and failing to account for the role of the Trump administration. “Everything we have seen and heard of Chairman McCaul’s latest partisan report shows that it is based on cherry-picked facts, inaccurate characterizations, and pre-existing biases that have plagued this investigation from the start,” White House spokesperson Sharon Yang said. Text exchange: The aunt of Colt Gray told The Washington Post the suspected Georgia school shooter’s mother texted her saying she spoke with a school counselor and warned Apalachee High School staff of an “extreme emergency” before the deadly shooting. The aunt said Marcee Gray urged the school to “immediately” find her son and that a call log shows that a call was made to the school at 9:50 a.m. Warrants for the teen’s arrest say the shooting started at 10:20 a.m. Full report >
Georgia school shooting: Authorities say Colt Gray shot and killed students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, both 14, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53. Eight other students and a teacher were injured. Colt Gray, 14, has been charged with four counts of murder. The teen’s father, Colin Gray , became the first parent of a school shooting suspect to be charged in Georgia. Read more >

Dolphins player detained: Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was handcuffed and placed face down on a street outside the team’s stadium Sunday morning after he was stopped for speeding and reckless driving before the Dolphins’ first game of the season. The incident, which went viral on social media after fans posted video, resulted in a police officer being placed on administrative leave. Hill said he “had no idea” why police placed him in handcuffs. Defensive tackle Calais Campbell , who was also briefly handcuffed after coming to his teammate’s aid, called the incident “a bit extreme.” Full report >

Egg recall: Health officials in Wisconsin initiated a recall of eggs after a salmonella outbreak among 65 people in nine states reportedly originated on a Wisconsin farm. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said people in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Virginia, Colorado, Utah and California are affected by the outbreak, which has resulted in 24 hospitalizations. Cantaloupe recall: In a separate case, cantaloupes sold in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas and Virginia at various retail supermarkets are being recalled due to potential salmonella contamination , per the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
