Tree City USA: Henderson's 33 Years of Commitment to Making the Planet Better

Did you know that the city of Henderson has a decades-long commitment to trees?

Well, it does, and there’s proof.

Not only does Henderson have over 30,000 trees, but it’s also been recognized as a Tree City USA for 33 years.

    What is that you ask?

    Tree City USA

The Tree City USA program has been greening up America since 1976.

To gain the recognition, a city must meet four requirements.

    1. Maintain a tree board or department
    2. Have a community tree ordinance
    3. Spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry
    4. Celebrate Arbor day

Why Become a Tree City USA Community?

Becoming a Tree City USA provides communities with many benefits.

    Those benefits include:

    • Trees help absorb the sounds of traffic in urban areas by 40%.
    • Neighborhoods with trees are seven to nine degrees cooler than those without.
    • Trees reduce energy costs by up to 25% by shading buildings and protecting them from winter winds.
    • Homes with trees have higher property values.
    • Green space plays a major role in improving mental and physical health.
    • Planting and maintaining trees absorbs carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, mitigating the effects of climate change.
